Reception
At South Wellfield, we are committed to giving every child a strong start to their school journey. We provide a nurturing, stimulating environment where children learn through a carefully balanced blend of focused teaching and exploratory play. Everything we do in Reception is rooted in The Wellfield Way, ensuring that our children are safe, respectful and ready to learn. From their very first day, we help children understand the importance of these values, creating a positive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
Across the week children take part in dedicated learning sessions including:

- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Understanding the World
- Literacy through Drawing Club
- Phonics
- Art
- PE
- Handwriting
Alongside these focused sessions, children are encouraged to explore and learn through play within our thoughtfully designed classroom environment. Our classroom is divided into five engaging areas, each offering unique opportunities for discovery, creativity and development:

Our children also spend a morning each week in our fantastic Forest School provision. They get to explore the natural world, embrace new challenges, get muddy, and take risks. Through these memorable experiences, children develop a love of learning outdoors. Forest School is the highlight of the week for many (staff too!)
Our children have access to our outside environment every day: our outdoor classroom and Adventure Zone. We believe in going outside whatever the weather!
Through a combination of high-quality teaching, purposeful play and rich learning experiences, we aim to foster confident and independent learners who are ready to thrive throughout their time at school.
