Nursery (2-3 year olds)

Welcome to Blue Butterflies

We are delighted to launch our brand-new provision for 2-year-olds within Blue Butterflies.

At Wellfield, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, loved and well-nurtured, and our youngest learners are no exception. Guided by our school vision and the values of The Wellfield Way, we create a warm, caring environment where children can settle, grow and begin their learning journey with confidence.

Our aim is to provide a true 'home from home' experience. We understand that starting nursery is a big step for both children and families, which is why we place great importance on building strong, positive relationships with parents and carers. By working closely together, we can ensure a smooth and happy transition from home to school.

We will support your child through important early milestones, including developing toilet training, establishing nap-time routines and building independence, always responding to their individual needs with patience, care and encouragement.

Our nurturing environment is rooted in our vision of developing children who are:

  • Well Nurtured - happy, safe and cared for
  • Well Read - inspired through stories, language and communication
  • Well Equipped - developing the skills they need for learning and life
  • Well Rounded - curious, confident and ready to explore the world
  • Well Connected - building positive relationships with others

Everything we do is guided by The Wellfield Way:

Safe. Respectful. Ready.

Together, we will help your child develop a love of learning, grow in confidence and feel a strong sense of belonging from their very first day.

We Shine Brightly

At Blue Butterflies, every child is valued, every achievement is celebrated, and every child is encouraged to shine brightly.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family into our Wellfield community.

Our 2-Year-Old Nursery Curriculum

Our nurturing curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences. Children learn through a variety of exciting themes that support their development across communication, physical skills, personal and social development, early literacy, mathematics, creativity, and understanding of the world.

The curriculum has a strong focus on the three Prime Areas of Learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage:

  • Communication and Language (C&L) - developing listening, understanding, vocabulary and speaking skills.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) - building confidence, independence, positive relationships and emotional wellbeing.
  • Physical Development (PD) - supporting gross and fine motor skills, self-care and healthy development.

These prime areas form the foundation of all learning and are woven throughout every experience, activity and topic. We have used Birth to 5 Matters and Development Matters to ensure our curriculum is carefully planned to ensure children develop the essential skills they need for future learning and provides a seamless progression into our 3-4 year-old curriculum, with learning building progressively year on year.

Throughout the year, children enjoy six engaging topics:

  • My World, My Way - exploring themselves, their families and their immediate environment.
  • What Will I Be? Just Wait and See! - developing confidence and celebrating their abilities and achievements.
  • Little Steps, Big Journeys - discovering different types of transport and exploring the wider world.
  • Ready, Set, Grow! - learning about growth, life cycles, plants, animals and themselves.
  • Once Upon a Time - enjoying traditional tales, nursery rhymes, storytelling and imaginative play.
  • All Creatures Great and Small - exploring animals, habitats and caring for living things
