Year 3
Welcome to Year 3 at South Wellfield. As children begin their Key Stage 2 journey, we continue to build on the strong foundations developed throughout Key Stage 1, supporting them to become increasingly confident, independent and resilient learners.
In Year 3, we continue to use our bitesize approach to learning, breaking new knowledge and skills into manageable steps so that every child can experience success and build securely on what they already know. We believe children learn best when they are actively involved, so we make learning as engaging, practical and hands-on as possible. From investigations and collaborative challenges to outdoor learning and real-life experiences, children are given opportunities to explore, question, discuss and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
Alongside developing strong academic foundations, we encourage children to take greater ownership of their learning, think critically, work collaboratively and approach new challenges with confidence. As always, our approach is underpinned by The Wellfield Way: Safe. Respectful. Ready.
Highlights of Year 3
Year 3 is packed with exciting experiences that take learning beyond the classroom. A particular highlight is our one-night residential, which forms part of our PE curriculum and Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA) offer. Children develop independence, resilience, teamwork and problem-solving skills while experiencing the excitement of staying away from home with their friends.
Children also have the opportunity to perform at the Big Sing at Whitley Bay Playhouse, developing their confidence and love of music and performance. Our wider curriculum is brought to life through memorable experiences, including a visit to Rising Sun Country Park to support our History learning about the Stone Age, as well as planning, mapping and completing a walk around Earsdon as part of our Geography fieldwork. These experiences help children make meaningful connections with their learning while developing the confidence, curiosity and independence they need as they move through Key Stage 2.
