RE
We shine brightly in RE when we explore thought provoking questions and learn about the religious and non-religious communities in our local area and around the world. Learning about and from religion gives our children and the opportunity to consider the nature of being human and explore the common bond found in shared human experiences. Our main aims are to:
- develop deepening knowledge and understanding about a range of religious and non-religious worldviews so that they can explain beliefs and practices across a range of religious and non-religious worldviews.
- gain and deploy deepening understanding of specialist vocabulary and terms
- know and understand about religious diversity within the region, as well as nationally and globally
- gain and deploy skills that enable critical thinking and enquiry in relation to the material they study
- reflect on their own thoughts, feelings, experiences, ideas, values and beliefs
We cover the North Tyneside Locally Agreed Syllabus and have adapted this to suit the needs of our children. Our RE curriculum also covers aspects of the PSHE critical as it is central to good local, national and global citizenship. It also makes a significant contribution to the active promotion of mutual respect and tolerance of others faiths and beliefs, a fundamental British value.

| Well - nurtured |
Our children will learn from others’ experiences through stories and reflect on their own experiences thoughts and beliefs. They will develop respect for, sensitivity to and acceptance of others, in particular those whose faiths and beliefs are different to their own. Our children will develop their own sense of self-worth, identity and belonging within their communities and as citizens within a global community. The Agreed Syllabus refers to developing attitudes in self-awareness, respect, open-mindedness and appreciation and wonder. |

Our children will learn about what religious communities there are in our area now and explore significant local figures from the past such as St Bede and St Cuthbert. They will also increase their understanding of non-religious beliefs such as atheism and humanism. They will do so with understanding and empathy, conveying their own opinions and have the confidence to challenge prejudice. |

The three key elements of RE - knowledge and understanding, critical thinking, and personal reflection encompass a wide range of skills including: investigation and enquiry, interpretation, application, expression (learning to communicate), analysis, evaluation, reflection and response and empathy. |

During RE the children will read extracts from a range of Sacred texts as well as exploring a range of sources from religious and non-religious views. When learning about Christianity each year group will read stories, prayers and parables from the Old and New Testament explore their meaning and application in modern day life. They will also be able to contrast with stories from other religions such as Rama and Sita. |

The study of religions and beliefs is a global subject and learning will take is all over the globe as well as looking into the diversity in our local area. Religion also forms one of our themes in history and we take this further but looking at the challenges different religious communities face today. RE enables pupils to have a nuanced and informed understanding of political, social and moral issues that they will need to face as they grow up in an increasingly globalised world. They will explore mutual respect and the significance of this for community cohesion in our multifaith and non-faith society. |
